Power-Up with Instructional Technology Professional Development

Chesterfield County Public Schools Tamara Howerton - Technology Integrator
Finding way to help teachers through Blended Learning

  • Providing PD where they are and when they are ready
  • Usually PD offered after school (Face to Face), then expanded to online modules
  • Excited with what they learned, but didnt have time to implement
  • Tied PD to content area and specific skill set
  • Used Edmodo create chunks of course work and to monitor completion of assignements
How Did you Implement the Instructional Technology Professional Development Model

  • Began by doing research for models
  • Looked at what other counties were doing.  Some were buying PD packages
  • We set up IT Learning Academy (Held at various locations)
  • Talked with instructional specialists
  • Built PD in Google Sites
  • Curriculum Based
  • Included Technology User Guides on the site (included video tutorials)
  • TSIP Class - Totally online
  • 17 week course for TSIPs
  • Courses were aligned to individual teacher goals
  • Modules are created by ITRTs
  • Gradebook in Edmodo is used to monitor artifacts being turned in or quiz taken
  • Create TIP folders in Modules to help with assignments
